Kinetic Energies Collaborative Design Spaces

As business problems have become more complex, larger more diverse teams have been required to solve these problems. The collaborative environments that these teams use can be key in their success. Collaborative environments have a number of characteristics that make them successful which include the capability to:

  • create a work area that can adapt instantly to the work that needs to be done, and how it needs to be done
  • influence thought and behavior by changing the work environment to support exploratory thinking
  • allow for rapid iteration of ideas so that they can be improved
  • allow people to rapidly recombine into different teams to recombine perspectives and expertise
  • create a “laboratory” to support the testing of solutions

Kinetic Energies feels it’s critical in today’s environment to provide one additional capability to collaborative environments and that is portability. Therefore, Kinetic Energies, has designed a collaborative environment that meet this and other goals. These goals include:

  • portability. The Nomad II™ system provides a collaborative environment that can be shipped via today’s overnight shippers (e.g. FedEx). This requires a design that can be disassembled into pieces that are packed into shipping containers that meet specific weight and girth requirements.
  • Ease of assembly/disassembly. The Nomad II system is designed to allow the user to easily assemble the environment he desires and then disassemble for repacking. This requires a modular design that allows panels to be combined to form multiple panel configurations.
  • a unique trade dress. The Nomad II design provides a single look and feel that can be customized for a spectrum of applications from lightweight portable to heavier permanent applications.

Permanent Centers

The Nomad II system is also used in permanent centers with the addition of wall-mounted dry-erase units.

Wall Mounted Panels

The Nomad II wall-mount panel picks up the trade dress of the rolling panels with a front panel design that resembles the chassis. It also maintains the reconfigurability of the rolling panels. A single panel can be connected with others to create multiple panel wall mount panels

Portable Panels

There is one possibility that can occur in a permanent collaborative design center that requires a different solution. If the space is tight enough that maneuvering wheeled units through it causes a disruption. The portable panel solves this problem.

The portable panel is a one sided-dry erase surface that installs into the top trim of the chassis and uses a cam to engage with the top trim to hold it in place. The portable panels can be used with both the rolling panels and the wall panels.
